FAQ

Q: Why not just join a normal club disc team or disc golf club?

A: You can do that too, and still join SDC for the community-participation and fun aspects! Also, having multiple teams in a single club has lots of benefits, mostly related to having greater numbers with which to tackle goals or challenges, and create growth and playing opportunities, especially across multiple seasons. (This is why the majority of popular sports clubs in the world are structured this way)

Q: Is this like (or related to) SUPA?

A: Not officially, but absolutely in spirit! SDC supports all of SUPA’s goals, and is also building support for ultimate from some slightly different angles, but cooperating wherever we can for maximum impact! We love SUPA and appreciate how much its volunteers do for the community!

Q: Do I have to volunteer for anything to join? (i.e. coaching youth ultimate)

A: Not at all! Giving back and supporting youth ultimate is a goal for the club, and there are lots of ways to support that even if you can’t personally spend time volunteering for it. Just joining and being an active member of the athletic and/or social sides of the club is good enough for us!

Q: Does SDC maintain a focus on gender & other forms of equity?

A: Absolutely! One of the reasons we’re so proud of our sport is that women’s and especially mixed-gender play is found at the highest levels, and SDC will field teams based on its members’ gender makeup and division preferences. And, we also want to make sure that the economic and demographic gaps that exist in ultimate start to get some attention as well. Frisbee traditionally thrived in a university setting, and to this day has never quite left affluent circles. It’s time for that to change!
